PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Welcome Back
These holidays were just beautiful! We had sunshine and plenty of time outside, before daylight savings was stolen away from us. I was very busy with many day trips for hiking and also horsing about. I love being outdoors with my four-legged kids and truly soaking in the world around me. My baby Miracle is no longer very baby anymore. She is growing into a giant and is now self-loading onto the horse float and is happy to stay there all day eating lucerne. I celebrated my 19th wedding anniversary with a very โromanticโ visit to Costco and breakfast. A fun and busy holiday, thatโs for sure. Iโm super excited about this term and the fast-paced term it will be.
REMINDER REMINDER REMINDER
Students Online โ book nowโฆ we all have a responsibility to help our young people
We are fortunate to have Susan Mclean booked to do an information session for all staff and families Wednesday May 15th 3.40pm. It would be wonderful to have all families attend this session, alongside our staff. The school has invested significantly to support families in this new era that we are now trying to parent and educate children in. Please call or email now to reserve a seat โ wandong.ps@education.vic.gov.au
Fundraising
A reminder that we continue to promote all our PAFA fundraising efforts across the year to help improve our Buildings and Grounds. Last year, we smashed our fundraising target. However, this was saved and put away to make a strategic plan and design when we were fortunate to be successful in gaining an Inclusive Schools grant, as well as the government capital works funding commitment. This term we have already begun planning this playground and new building design with the two separate DET appointed architects. When we begin working out the scope of works for this playground and building project, we are excited to be able to build other play and passive areas within our school with additional fundraising we had from previous years, as well as what we can potentially fundraise this year.
Given our site and the continual flooding of our oval, this work is also potentially being scoped to see if it will fit within our fundraising kitty. It is exciting that we have options because of the funds we have been able to save through fundraising. We are eternally grateful to our very active and supportive PAFA team who work tirelessly to bring much needed funds into the school. Unfortunately, as a government school, the basic educational funding just doesnโt cover all that we desperately need. We truly value the part our families play in supporting the efforts of this awesome school we are privileged to be a part of.

Autism Acceptance Month
April is Autism Acceptance Month (AAM) and a great opportunity to celebrate our autistic students, learn more about how we can support and include them, and help foster understanding and acceptance of autism among all students. AAM is an offshoot of the United Nationsโ sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day on Tuesday 2 April 2024. The day will begin a month of global events to celebrate autistic people.
Our school is committed to understanding, including and celebrating our autistic students and values the contribution they and their families make to our school.
To celebrate AAM, we would like to share some resources that support autistic students and their families.
The Department of Education has worked with organisations for autistic people and lead researchers in autism to develop new resources for schools to help us better understand, support and celebrate the strengths of autistic students. I hope you find them useful and insightful.
- Allplay Learn Inclusive School CommunitiesMonash Universityโs AllPlay Learn team has developed evidence-based guidance and resources on how to create inclusive school communities where everyone feels welcome andย supported. It includes videos on engaging with other parents, usingย Inclusive languageย andย student resourcesย you canย ย ย ย ย ย share with your child or children.

Annual Report Public Meeting
Each year, an Annual Report is produced to highlight successes and opportunities for improvement from the previous school year. The report consists of the Government School Performance Summary; a set of statements about What our School is Doing in terms of student learning, student engagement and wellbeing and student pathways and transitions; and a Financial Position and Performance statement. The Annual Report will be presented at a Public Meeting on Monday 13th May, commencing at 5.00pm in the library. All interested members of the school community are welcome to attend. School Council will be held after the public meeting.
ย
Improving Safety at School Drop-Off and Pick-Up Times
Take the healthy option. If you canโt walk the whole way, consider parking a few streets away and walking the rest of the way. Children under the age of 12 are allowed to ride on footpaths and so can adults riding with them.ย
Wait on the same side of the road as your child. Meet your child at the school gate to avoid your child dashing across the road.ย If you need to drive to school, get your child into the habit of using the carโs kerbside doors. The safest doors are kerbside doors, away from traffic.

Child safety and wellbeing at Wandong Primary School information for families and the school community
The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.
Wandong has reviewed and updated our child safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements of the new standards. These are available to view https://www.wandongps.vic.edu.au/school-policies/
We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures and practices.
If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please contact Jessica Woods (AP โ Wellbeing)

WELLBEING
S.E.W. in Foundation A
In Term One, Foundation A learnt about our school values: Pride, Curiosity, and Kindness. We were introduced to the characters which represent each value and brainstormed different ways we can show pride, curiosity, and kindness at school.
On Harmony Day, we learnt about โhow we are all different, but all belongโ and discussed the importance of working together and accepting everyone at school. We also celebrated our Gratitude Day and enjoyed recognising the special things that we are all grateful for.ย ย
Foundation A collect pom-poms when we make โgreenโ choices at school, work as a team and make Miss. Aquilina and Paige proud. We enjoyed two picnics outside for filling our pom-pom rewards jar.
