PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

2025 Enrolments Finalised

Enrolments are now closed, and we look forward to welcoming our new and perhaps some โ€˜oldโ€™ families to our Wandong Launchpad Program on the 19th of August. This officially starts our Foundation transition and preparing our students for school.

At this stage we are at capacity, and we ask that you please email the office as soon as possible if you are looking at moving from Wandong next year. This early notification helps us ensure other families have the opportunity to enrol and are currently on a โ€˜wait listโ€™.

Curriculum Day Reminder โ€“ Friday 16th of August

Just a reminder that Friday the 16th of August is our whole school pupil free Curriculum Day for Term Three. Please ensure you are booked in with TheirCare if you require supervision for your child on this day.

SCHOOL REVIEW AND STUDENT ATTENDANCE

As we have moved through the process of our school review and celebrating the massive achievements, it is also an occasion where we also analyse our targets around student attendance. A huge percentage of our absences is due to children being taken out of school for family holidays. As much as this is a wonderful experience and often there is so much learning involved in such travel, it can often significantly impact student learning and outcomes. It is so very important that these holidays are taken during one of the many weekโ€™s children get during the term breaks. DET policy, as most in our community know, requires Principal Approval. ย

ย

It was fantastic to see a number of children with excellent attendance. Less than 5 days absence so far this year. Unfortunately, there are a number of children who have had a significant absence rate already this year. Some interesting information:

  • 40 days absence per year is equivalent to missing one day per week.
  • If your child misses more than 12 days per year, then they could miss over half a year of learning from Prep to Year 10.
  • If your child misses more than 20 days per year, then they will miss over one year of learning from Prep to Year 10.
  • If your child misses 36 days per year, then they could miss over two years of learning from Prep to Year 10.

ย

Coming to school every day to learn is an absolute necessity.ย Our students cannot learn effectively if they have a significant number of days off, or even if they are regular late comers.ย

ย

Principals Day

A huge thank you to our Wandong family for celebrating our Principal team on Friday.

As I collapsed into my couch on Friday evening, I sat and reflected on what an amazing community we have at Wandong. As I watched the fire flicker with light, I took a deep breath and was thankful, for an amazing staff, wonderful supportive parents and an outstanding school.

ย

I wish to extend a huge thank you to our staff, students and community for their support and dedication to Wandong. Thank you for the lovely kind words shared, gifts and pure joy you bring to each of us daily.

ย

Iโ€™m incredibly blessed to run this education race alongside some unbelievable woman โ€“ Steph and Jess! When coming to work is more like, coming home to family, you know youโ€™ve made it in life ๐Ÿ˜Š

ย

So very thankful and grateful!

Playground Update

I think we are nearly there! Only a few short weeks until our oval is complete with the synthetic turf being laid. Wow! What a difference this will make. Whilst we have our contractors onsite, they will also be doing some minor work near the library in filling behind the tiered seating beside the library. They will also be placing some of our large rocks that we have been using as a feature in our playground and retaining walls, into the hill around the library. This will allow the children to be able to sit and play without potentially damaging the slope with erosion. In hearing our students and their love of playing in dirt, we love our country kids, we have asked the contractors to build a dirt mound in the top corner of the block. We know our children love โ€˜Mud Hillโ€™ as they have aptly called it, however, the digging in the side of this bank area isnโ€™t ideal for many reasons. Soโ€ฆ a new โ€˜Mud Hillโ€™ is being born! So much excitement coming!

ย

After School Traffic Incident – UPDATE

Our little Wandong person who collided with the vehicle after school on Monday is on the mend and the foot is in fact not broken. He is obviously somewhat very black and blue, but will be running about soon enough.

ย

A huge shoutout to our amazing community who stepped up and stepped in on all fronts, from minding tiny children, to calling 000, to moving along and stopping to ask if everyone was ok. THANK YOU! A worthy reminder for everyone to speak with your children about the importance of crossing roads safely. Also, please continue to drive carefully and slowly around our school.

WELLBEING

SEW 1/2M

In 1/2, we have been exploring what conflict is and the different ways that we can resolve conflict. Using our school character โ€˜Connie Conflictโ€™, students participated in role play scenarios where they had to resolve a conflict scenario. After this, students identified 5 different techniques that they can use to overcome conflict.

BOOK WEEK

******Final reminder that our school spare change challenge ends this Friday. Class money boxes will then be counted and the highest fundraising classroom will receive a sundae bar one lunch eating time in the week following the competition ending. So have one last check under the couch and bring in any coins you find lying around. Create a strong finish for your class!ย

OFFICE NOTICES

Office Hours :- 8:30am until 3:55pm

Picking Up Children โ€“ Please help our admin team!

In exceptional circumstances and emergencies, at times children need to be collected from school early. Please help our wonderful administration team by ensuring that this is not done during the break times of 11:00-11:30am and 1:45-2:30pm. When children are outside playing with their friends, they do not hear the announcements and it is difficult to have a staff member unlock classrooms to collect bags and belongings. Please help support our classroom programs by waiting until 3:30pm to collect children. The admin area is growing quite hectic in the afternoons with families collecting children early Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.

IMPORTANT โ€“ Mobile Phone/Watch/Device Policy

In 2020, DET introduced strict restrictions on the use of any device with access to a cellular system, with or without a physical connection to a network. Where students bring a device of this type to school, it MUST be placed in secure storage at the office.

IMPORTANT โ€“ Student Information

It is very important we have up-to-date information for all students. Please check Compass and update current home & email address, phone numbers & medical details.

Wet Weather

We would like to request parents/guardians of students to pack a set of spare uniform items in their childโ€™s bag, including a waterproof bag. We have limited spare uniform at the office. If your child has recently needed to borrow items from our sick bay, please wash and return them to the office as soon as possible.

Thanks Administration Team

UNIFORM

IMPORTANT

**Please remember to put your child’s full name on their uniform. Please don’t use initials, as this makes it harder for us to find the owner.

If you order a bag, the order can be placed in your child’s or siblings’ tub for convenience. If not, you will need to supply a bag or make arrangements to collect your order.
