PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Planning Week

Itโ€™s hard to believe we are approaching the end of term, but on the other handโ€ฆ it seems to be an incredibly long term. Our childrenโ€™s stamina is beginning to wane, as our teachers work tirelessly to keep all the balls in the air and our children engaged.

ย

Planning Week is beginning next week, in week 10. Days and teams as per below.

ย

This is an exhausting week for all involved โ€“ students and staff!

Punctuality and Attendance

Thank you to the parents who are assisting their childโ€™s learning by having them at school every day before the school bell. It is very important that students donโ€™t miss any time during the school day unless of course, they are too sick to be at school.

ย

The music starts at 8:52am each morning and all students should be at school by that time. This is more important than ever with our middle and senior students utilising LB Davern for PE and when students arrive late, they have missed the opportunity to walk to this venue with their class and teacher. In the afternoon, the end of school bell goes at 3:30pm and it is very important that all children are collected on time.

NAPLAN (National Assessment Program โ€“ Literacy and Numeracy)

It is expected that NAPLAN results will be available to Year 3 and Year 5 families early in Term 3. For those of you with children in Year 2 and Year 4, NAPLAN will be happening between the 12th and 24th March in 2025! NAPLAN dates up until 2029 are available here:ย https://www.nap.edu.au/naplan/key-dates

Emergency Evacuation/Lockdown Drill

As part of our emergency management procedures, we complete various emergency drills over the course of the year. Last week we completed a drill that had all students, teachers and visitors on-site complete a lockdown process. We are pleased to report that we did not lose anyone and that the drill was completed successfully.

ย

2025 ENROLMENTS

We are asking all families with sibling enrolments for 2025 to submit their enrolment forms as soon as possible. No enrolments were taken until the start of Term 2, and then only โ€˜in-zoneโ€™ enrolments are confirmed. Those out of zone can submit an application by the end of July and can only be confirmed thereafter if the school has capacity.

ย

We have been directed to reduce our intake of enrolments outside of our zone and can only accept three classes of Foundation students in 2025. We currently have well over 100 enrolment applications. Please get your enrolment forms in as soon as possible, to give us some certainty on any potential out of zone enrolments for next year.

Principal Certificate of Excellence

This year when I finalise reports, all the children that have been awarded an โ€˜EXCELLENTโ€™ for behaviour and effort in every class, including specialists, will have a certificate uploaded to Compass. Please make sure you check your childโ€™s dashboard, as there is no alert when I put a comment into the student chronicle.

Student Reports – Compass

Individual Education Plans (for applicable students) are already available and uploaded to Compass. Student Reports will be uploaded to Compass on Monday 20th June at 3.30pm. The teachers and the children are putting the finishing touches which will provide a wealth of information about your childโ€™s learning.

Early Dismissal on the Last Day of Term

Term Two ends Friday 28th June. The children will have lunch as normal at 1:30pm and will return to their classroom to be dismissed at 2:30pm.

WELLBEING

Social and Emotional learning in 1/2W

During Reconciliation Week students watched a video called โ€˜Walking Togetherโ€™. It talked about our shared histories and the role we all play in building relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures and futures.

Students then made connections between the video and posters that we have in our classroom (and around the school). They identified the need for people to include each other when playing, and including people even though we are all different.

Students then decorated soccer balls with pictures of, and words about, activities they enjoy doing. We discussed what we like doing, and the similarities and differences between us.

Office Hours :- 8:30am until 3:55pm

Picking Up Children โ€“ Please help our admin team!

In exceptional circumstances and emergencies, at times children need to be collected from school early. Please help our wonderful administration team by ensuring that this is not done during the break times of 11:00-11:30am and 1:45-2:30pm. When children are outside playing with their friends, they do not hear the announcements and it is difficult to have a staff member unlock classrooms to collect bags and belongings. Please help support our classroom programs by waiting until 3:30pm to collect children. The admin area is growing quite hectic in the afternoons with families collecting children early Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.

IMPORTANT โ€“ Mobile Phone/Watch/Device Policy

In 2020, DET introduced strict restrictions on the use of any device with access to a cellular system, with or without a physical connection to a network. Where students bring a device of this type to school, it MUST be placed in secure storage at the office.

IMPORTANT โ€“ Student Information

It is very important we have up-to-date information for all students. Please check Compass and update current home & email addresses, phone numbers & medical details.

Wet Weather

We would like to request parents/guardians of students to pack a set of spare uniform items in their childโ€™s bag, including a waterproof bag. We have limited spare uniform at the office. If your child has recently needed to borrow items from our sick bay, please wash and return them to the office as soon as possible.

Thanks Administration Team

Uniform Orders

IMPORTANT

**Please remember to put your child’s full name on their uniform. Please don’t use initials, as this makes it harder for us to find the owner.

**Please remember to order a bag for smaller orders & for larger orders select two.

If you order a bag, the order can be placed in your child’s or siblings’ tub for convenience. If not, you will need to supply a bag or make arrangements to collect your order.
