PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Staffing Update

Mrs Elliott is taking Long Service Leave for the last five weeks of next term, not the four I mentioned in a previous newsletter. Ms Yarni will be replacing her for this period of time and Ms Domino will be taking our PE session in F-2. We know this will be a wonderful arrangement for all our children.

ย

I want express the massive amount of gratitude to all our children, families and staff this week. Iโ€™ve watched the news, seen on social media and witnessed the stress on colleagues as they face staffing shortages to the point of class and school closure. Iโ€™m forever thankful for our children who have rolled into their split rooms seamlessly with positivity, our staff who continue to take on above extra to support and accommodate, then to our families who have been a massive encouragement day in and day out. THANK YOU!

ย

Walk to School Day

Thank you to everyone who made our โ€˜Walk to School Dayโ€™ last week such a success. We think it was the biggest yet! Despite what we thought was going to be a very wet walk, it was actually a stunning morning. It was awesome to see our children being active and walking or riding into school. Thank you to our community for supporting this great initiative.

Celebrate Education Week with Us:

Classroom Visits & Mad For Science Day!

We are thrilled to announce an exciting line-up of events for the upcoming 2024 Victorian Education Week, highlighting the wonders of learning and the joys of science! This special week is a fantastic opportunity for our school community to come together, celebrate our students’ achievements, and explore the fascinating world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

ย

Classroom Visitsย (families welcome)ย – Thursday, 16th May

Mark your calendars for Thursday 16th May, between 2:30-3:30pm, as we invite all families to step into our classrooms and share in the learning journey of our students.

This is a unique chance forย two parents or special guests per studentย to witness firsthand the incredible work our students have been doing. Please note, our Foundation classrooms will have a slightly adjusted schedule, welcoming guests from 3:00-3:30pm, to ensure our youngest learners enjoy this experience without feeling overwhelmed.

Mad For Science Dayย (students only)ย – Friday, 17th May

Get ready to be amazed on Friday 17th May, as our school transforms into a vibrant hub of scientific exploration for Mad for Science Day! This day is dedicated to sparking a love for STEM through a variety of interactive and engaging activities. Students will be grouped in mixed ages, encouraging not only learning across different levels but also fostering new friendships and social connections. Highlights of Mad for Science Day include:

  • Hands-On STEM Experiences: From intriguing science experiments to innovative technology projects and engineering challenges, there will be a wealth of activities designed to captivate studentsโ€™ imaginations and inspire collaborative problem-solving.
  • Special Science Incursion: Each year level will enjoy an awe-inspiring science show in the school hall, featuring demonstrations that are simply too spectacular to be confined to a classroom setting. This show promises to deliver those โ€œWOWโ€ moments, showcasing the magic and excitement of science in a way thatโ€™s accessible and entertaining for all ages. Best of all, the cost of this incursion is fully covered for every student, ensuring that everyone can participate in the fun.

As we celebrate Education Week and the wonders of STEM, we look forward to welcoming our students’ families and special guests into our school community. This is a wonderful opportunity to support and encourage our young learners, showcasing the importance of education and the endless possibilities that come with a curiosity for the world around us.ย

We canโ€™t wait to share this educational celebration with our students and families!

Education Support Day

Every day, education support staff work to keep our schools running, support our students to learn and our teachers to teach. At our school, our education support staff are the friendly faces in the office, and the support staff in classrooms and we consider ourselves extremely lucky to have such wonderful staff here at Wandong.

For me, I can absolutely guarantee that I couldnโ€™t do my job without their support, professionalism and sheer hard work. Thank you legends ๐Ÿ˜Š Please reach out to our ES and give a simple thank you. It is important that these precious people know that we see them and know how much they are appreciated.

Motherโ€™s Day Stall

Thank you to our wonderful helpers for all their work in enabling this to take place last week. There were lots of lovely gifts for sale, and plenty of friendly faces to help our students make their choices. A huge shoutout to our wonderful PAFA team on another fabulous community event.

WELLBEING

SEW in Grade 1/2 G

In Grade 1 / 2, our students have been learning to understand that we all have a variety of skills and strengths. Our individual qualities are what make us unique! First, we spoke about how our preferences may be similar or different from those of our peers. Next, the students shared their interested and openly listened to others. Finally, we had a wonderful time working together to identify and understand our own interests and engaging in our classmates interests and preferences.ย

NOTICES

Office Hours :- 8:30am until 3:55pm

Picking Up Children โ€“ Please help our admin team!

In exceptional circumstances and emergencies, at times children need to be collected from school early. Please help our wonderful administration team by ensuring that this is not done during the break times of 11:00-11:30am and 1:45-2:30pm. When children are outside playing with their friends, they do not hear the announcements and it is difficult to have a staff member unlock classrooms to collect bags and belongings. Please help support our classroom programs by waiting until 3:30pm to collect children. The admin area is growing quite hectic in the afternoons with families collecting children early Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.

IMPORTANT โ€“ Mobile Phone/Watch/Device Policy

In 2020, DET introduced strict restrictions on the use of any device with access to a cellular system, with or without a physical connection to a network. Where students bring a device of this type to school, it MUST be placed in secure storage at the office.

IMPORTANT โ€“ Student Information

It is very important we have up-to-date information for all students. Please check Compass and update current home & email addresses, phone numbers & medical details.

Reminder:

Hats must be worn throughout term one & term four outside. If your child has taken their hat home, please make sure it’s brought back to school.
