PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Payment of Curriculum Contributions

A huge thank you to everyone who has already made part or full payment for their childโ€™s 2025 Curriculum Contributions. Please remember that this payment goes towards the resources your child will use in their classes in 2025. This is not a nice to have, but a necessity for our teachers to run the programs and experiences for your child. Please tick this off your list as soon as you are able. We continue to value your contributions in supporting our schoolโ€™s programs and resources. These contributions assist us to broaden the educational experience for our students. Without your contributions MANY of these may not be possible.

Sad News

Over the weekend we had someone break into the school grounds, cutting locks and chains to gain entry and steal our ride on mower. The police are currently involved and we urge anyone in our community to let us, or the police know if they hear or see something.

Items Brought From Home

Just a little reminder that children shouldnโ€™t bring anything of large monetary value to school, as lost items can cause some family distress. If children bring items from home into school, they are to take full responsibility for those items at recess breaks, lunch times and in their rooms.

Parent Helpersโ€™ Morning Tea

Our annual morning tea to thank all of those who help us during the year (parents, grandparents, friends and volunteers) will be held on Thursday 12th December at 11:00 am in the library. Please mark this date in your diary. The morning tea is our way of saying thank you to all of those volunteers who contribute to making Wandong such a wonderful school.

Remembrance Day

As busy as this last week was, it was important to take the time to pause and reflect on Remembrance Day. It allowed me to reflect on how truly grateful I am to live in such a wonderful country. Thank you to our students who lead our one-minute silence.

WANTED AD โ€“ can you help? Are you a budding photographer or a photographer with a business?

We are desperately searching for someone who could take some professional photos of our students and grounds with the potential to use these on documents and various platforms. Please contact the school or me directly if you can help โ€“ Kelly.morrow@education.vic.gov.au

Moderation is the Key to Consistent Teacher Judgements

Our teachers are currently assessing student learning growth and achievement to inform their Semester Two reports.

Those who donโ€™t teach or know/live with a teacher, often wonder what teachers use their time for outside of โ€˜face-to-faceโ€™ teaching. We spend a great deal of time planning, preparing lessons, doing professional learning and currently, our teachers are working hard to ensure accurate and consistent judgment of student achievement for their end of year reports. All teachers are attending several โ€˜moderationโ€™ sessions in their own teams and across level teams.

Student learning achievement is not always clear cut. Students may be strong at one skill such as developing their writing ideas, but be a weaker speller and inconsistent at punctuating their writing. Another child may be a strong speller but play it safe and use basic words, rather than experiment with interesting and engaging nouns, verbs and adjectives. Some students write pages and pages of writing without revisions or editing, making it hard to follow and another student may write much less but write high-quality, engaging sentences. Reaching agreement in what constitutes achievement at each progression point can be highly subjective. Moderation tries to ensure we are as consistent and accurate as possible in the assessment of student work against the expectations outlined in the Standards.ย This moderation work is also valuable in that it helps teachers deeply understand each childโ€™s strengths and areas for growth, as well as more thoroughly understand the Victorian Curriculum.

Semester Two Reports will be made available to parents in the last week of school via Compass.

WELLBEING

SEW in 5/6C

In 5/6C, we’ve been focusing on the theme of “Being Organised” during our SEW lessons. We learned how being organised can help us in our day-to-day lives, assist with our learning, and aid in achieving goals. Through activities like a race to find materials in our tubs and organising what we would need for certain subjects, we explored ideas to stay on top of things and how being organised can help us do so. Students worked on and shared thoughts about materials they may need for subjects now and in high school, which encouraged them to think about how they themselves can stay organised and how they can improve their organisational skills.

OFFICE NOTICES

Office Hours : - 8:30am until 3:55pm

Picking Up Children โ€“ Please help our admin team!

In exceptional circumstances and emergencies, at times children need to be collected from school early. Please help our wonderful administration team by ensuring that this is not done during the break times of 11:00-11:30am and 1:45-2:30pm. When children are outside playing with their friends, they do not hear the announcements and it is difficult to have a staff member unlock classrooms to collect bags and belongings. Please help support our classroom programs by waiting until 3:30pm to collect children. The admin area is growing quite hectic in the afternoons with families collecting children early. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.

IMPORTANT: โ€“ Mobile Phone/Watch/Device Policy

In 2020, DET introduced strict restrictions on the use of any device with access to a cellular system, with or without a physical connection to a network. Where students bring a device of this type to school, it MUST be placed in secure storage at the office.

IMPORTANT: โ€“ Student Information

It is very important we have up-to-date information for all students. Please check Compass and update current home & email address, phone numbers & medical details.

Reminder: –

Hats must be worn throughout Term Four & Term one outside. If they don’t have a hat, they can only play in a shaded area.

ย **Kids can get messy, please be organised & keep an extra set of clothes in your childโ€™s bag for emergencies.
