PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Did you know that most teachers will buy items for their classrooms and for their students out of their own savings? Please support our school and staff so we can continue to offer and supply the best possible programs and resources.

HELP NEEDED โ€“ Help us prepare of your child in 2025?

Parent Payments for 2025 are now liveโ€ฆ PLEASE HELP US PREPARE FOR YOUR CHILD IN 2025. We ask that this small contribution towards your childโ€™s curriculum consumables is put at the top of the list to ensure the school is able to prepare early and purchase the required resources and equipment for the coming year. Please note that this should be prioritised over all optional items like camp.

Staffing Update

Every year brings about some changes and once again we are incredibly grateful that the wonderful reputation we have in our local and broader community has allowed us to be fully staffed for 2025. It is exciting to think that our last positions were finalised in the first week of this term, while many schools still have a number of positions unfilled.

Next year we wish Ms Elliott and Ms Blakis a wonderful year off as they both prioritise some family time and we look forward to welcoming Deb and Jessye back in 2026. We sadly say farewell to Ms Kaitlyn Hall who is heading into a new career at Assumption and I know she will love those big humans over there. Ms Matilda Smith will be heading to sunny Queensland and we all hope the big move and transition goes smoothly. This year we also farewell Vanessa and Nicola and wish them every success in their new journeys ahead.

In 2025, we are excited to welcome new staff Kristie Tyrrell, Kaitlin Pike, Ashely Koeleman, Brooke Miller, Tracey Richardson, Pru Gardner and we are excited to welcome Courtney McCulloch back in Term 3. Congratulations to our newly appointed allied health professionals โ€“ Vishnu Priyab, our full time Psychologist and Patrick Walsh, our full time Occupational Therapist. Joining our every growing Education Support team will be Bianca Owens, Felicity Arnott and Ruby Rickards. And last, but not least, we welcome our Buildings and Grounds manager, Tom Schweis.

World Teachersโ€™ Day 2024 IS FRIDAY

On Friday 25th of October, the world celebrates teachers. Wandong is blessed with the best teachers in the world (Iโ€™m not biased either ๐Ÿ˜Š) so please find a way to cherish your childโ€™s teacher. We have a strong culture of gratitude and I know that every note, email, card, token gift, kind word does not go unnoticed. In fact, it is often shared far and wide in our staffroom. Our teachers arrive early, leave late, miss personal functions to attend school events and constantly put in well and above for our wonderful kids. Please show them you care in your own small way. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hats At School in Term 4 โ€“ no hat, no play

Even though the sun seems to come and go, students are still required to wear a school broad brimmed hat. This is to ensure we are meeting our obligations in our SunSmart Policy. Hats will be required to be worn daily from Term 1 & Term 4 2025. All students must wear a sun protective hat that shades the face, neck and ears for all outdoor activities.

Bullying Misconceptions and Truths

Often children will say โ€œIโ€™m being bulliedโ€ and at times parents report that they or their child is being bullied. When our staff investigate the incident, it is often the case that another child has been mean to them, hurt them, or said or done something to upset them. This is not bullying, but not ok all the same. Bullying is more than just a fight or disliking someone. Itโ€™s being mean to someone over and over again. Bullying is ongoing or repeated misuse of power in relationships, with the intention to cause deliberate (on purpose) psychological harm. Bullying behaviours can be verbal, physical or social. It is important that our children know the difference between someone doing something mean and someone who is being a bully. I urge you to chat to your childโ€™s teacher, Mrs Woods (Wellbeing AP), Ms Pollock or myself if youโ€™d like to ask any questions about this.

Child Safe

Children have the right to be safe and protected, including at school. Wandong is committed to keeping children safe. Child abuse, and arrangements that allow it to occur, will not be tolerated at our school. Please take the time to read our relevant policies, processes and information surrounding Child Safe Standards, which can be found on our public website. Please be aware that you can contact Stephanie Pollock (Assistant Principal Curriculum), Jess Woods (Assistant Principal Wellbeing) or me as Principal at any time through the office. In our role as the schools Child Safety leaders, it is our responsibility to ensure that we provide authoritative advice, raise awareness and ensure all staff have the relevant training.

OFFICE NOTICES

Office Hours : - 8:30am until 3:55pm

Picking Up Children โ€“ Please help our admin team!

In exceptional circumstances and emergencies, at times children need to be collected from school early. Please help our wonderful administration team by ensuring that this is not done during the break times of 11:00-11:30am and 1:45-2:30pm. When children are outside playing with their friends, they do not hear the announcements and it is difficult to have a staff member unlock classrooms to collect bags and belongings. Please help support our classroom programs by waiting until 3:30pm to collect children. The admin area is growing quite hectic in the afternoons with families collecting children early. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.

IMPORTANT: โ€“ Mobile Phone/Watch/Device Policy

In 2020, DET introduced strict restrictions on the use of any device with access to a cellular system, with or without a physical connection to a network. Where students bring a device of this type to school, it MUST be placed in secure storage at the office.

IMPORTANT: โ€“ Student Information

It is very important we have up-to-date information for all students. Please check Compass and update current home & email address, phone numbers & medical details.

Reminder: –

Hats must be worn throughout Term Four & Term one outside. If they don’t have a hat, they can only play in a shaded area.

ย **Kids can get messy, please be organised & keep an extra set of clothes in your childโ€™s bag for emergencies.

UNIFORM

IMPORTANT

**Please remember to put your child’s full name on their uniform. Please don’t use initials, as this makes it harder for us to find the owner.

If you order a bag, the order can be placed in your child’s or siblings’ tub for convenience. If not, you will need to supply a bag or make arrangements to collect your order.
