Office Hours in 2025

As we begin planning for 2025, please note that our office hours will continue to be 8:30am โ€“ 3:55pm. It will continue to be important that all information is read and actioned on Compass.

Semester Two 2024 Reports

Teachers are currently assessing students and writing report comments for their 2024 Semester Two reports.

ย

At Wandong, teachers collect a range of student learning samples and data from various assessments to inform their professional teacher judgments when determining each studentโ€™s progression points. (Progression points are the dots on your childโ€™s report and reflect where your childโ€™s teacher/s have judged their achievement to be against the Victorian Curriculum Achievement Standards)

ย

It is important that teachers use evidence of student achievement and progress from a range of sources when making their judgements. This ensures that teachers have an accurate and comprehensive picture of each childโ€™s learning. Our teachers aim to use at least three sources of data, as well as their professional observations to arrive at judgments, particularly in Reading, Writing and Number.

ย

Teachers at Wandong rigorously analyse this data and to ensure consistency in and between our teams, teachers moderate in their year level and cross level teams to discuss the evidence of student learning to ensure that teacher judgments are consistent between year levels and across the school. What I mean by this is that what a Year 3/4 teacher believes to be an end of Year 4 level writing piece is consistent with Foundation, Year 1/2 and 5/6 teacher judgments of a writing sample.

ย

Teachers will continue to make adjustments and finalise their judgements over the next few weeks as they incorporate more recent data into their decision making. Reports are then buddy read by a team member and someone from the leadership team before they are released to parents. This whole reporting process takes 6-8 weeks each semester. Our teachers will use the Curriculum Day on Monday 4thย November for report writing to compensate them for the considerable time that goes into writing comments, analysing data and making judgements.

ย

2024 Semester Two reports are due to be released to parents on Compass on Friday 19th December.

ย

Friendships

At this time of the year, with preparations beginning for 2025 class placements, parents often have questions and concerns about the friendships that exist amongst their childโ€™s peer group.

ย

Parents frequently worry about which friendships should be encouraged into next year and which friendships may need a break, if their child has enough friends or what to do if their child doesn’t always get along with friends.

ย

The Raising Children Networkย has some great information about these questions and more. Learning how to make and keep friends is an important part of growing up for school-age children. Having friends is good for childrenโ€™s confidence, wellbeing and ability to get along with others.

ย

If you would like to find out more and put your mind at ease, you may like to read the information onย Supporting your school-age childโ€™s friendships.

ย

Friendships help children develop important life skills like getting along with other people and sorting out conflicts and problems. Children with these skills are less likely to have social and emotional difficulties later in life.

Here are answers toย 10 frequently asked questions about childrenโ€™s friendships.

ย

If you have further questions about your childโ€™s friendships, please organise an appointment with their teacher.

Transitioning to 2025

Next week marks our start to the 2025 transitions. We are delighted to be able to welcome our 2025 Foundation students into school as we begin the important formal transitioning process. This year is a little exciting as many of our new Foundation children have been attending Launchpad sessions and have made great gains in their learning journey already. Our Launchpad students this year have grasped many of the Foundation Phonics expectations already. Later this term, every child will have the opportunity to step up into their new classroom, meet the teacher and spend the day with their new classmates.

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day in Australia is dedicated to Australians who died as a result of war, particularly from World War I onwards. A minute of silence is dedicated to the deceased, especially for soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation.

On Friday all students, staff and visitors will honour the people who died in wars to protect our ancestors and us. We respect people who fought in battles such as Waterloo or Gallipoli. The one-minute silence is our way to show we respect them.

OFFICE NOTICES

Office Hours : - 8:30am until 3:55pm

Picking Up Children โ€“ Please help our admin team!

In exceptional circumstances and emergencies, at times children need to be collected from school early. Please help our wonderful administration team by ensuring that this is not done during the break times of 11:00-11:30am and 1:45-2:30pm. When children are outside playing with their friends, they do not hear the announcements and it is difficult to have a staff member unlock classrooms to collect bags and belongings. Please help support our classroom programs by waiting until 3:30pm to collect children. The admin area is growing quite hectic in the afternoons with families collecting children early. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.

IMPORTANT: โ€“ Mobile Phone/Watch/Device Policy

In 2020, DET introduced strict restrictions on the use of any device with access to a cellular system, with or without a physical connection to a network. Where students bring a device of this type to school, it MUST be placed in secure storage at the office.

IMPORTANT: โ€“ Student Information

It is very important we have up-to-date information for all students. Please check Compass and update current home & email address, phone numbers & medical details.

Reminder: –

Hats must be worn throughout Term Four & Term one outside. If they don’t have a hat, they can only play in a shaded area.

ย **Kids can get messy, please be organised & keep an extra set of clothes in your childโ€™s bag for emergencies.
